Work Experience

RECENT WORK EXPERIENCE
I currently work with freelance and official reporters in multiple states as a scopist and proofreader for depos, hearings, trials, etc.

From late 2019 to the middle of 2020, I was the training director for a court reporting agency in Vancouver. I screened and trained proofreaders, scopists, and transcriptionists. I provided mentoring for new court reporters to improve their scoping and proofreading skills and managed the in-house style guide.

Prior to agency work, I was a freelance scopist and proofreader, where I gained experience with just about every type of proceeding that a US court reporter could write. I've proofed and/or scoped criminal trials, civil trials, hearings of all type, family court, divorce cases, board meetings, conferences, arbitration, examinations under oath, depositions, etc. I have additional experience with Canadian examinations for discovery, arbitration, chambers hearings, court proceedings and non-court audio.

I am tech-savvy and can often help reporters learn new software and workflow tricks such as auto-indexing or EZ Speakers.  Because I read steno, I can help you with dictionary entries that come up as I work with your transcripts.

PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE
My prior work experience related to transcript production includes more than five years of administrative support in a variety of office situations including the following:
  • Legal support staff at Prudential.
  • Temporary position proofing legal documents at Travelers.
  • Report generation and technical proofreading at an environmental chemistry lab.
  • Administrative support including transcription, document preparation and proofreading at a small medical device company.
  • Patient chart review and medication compliance verification at a university-funded research study.

BUSINESS OWNERSHIP
I was a small business owner for more than ten years. Related skills acquired:
  • Close visual inspection (quality control) of digital graphics.
  • Data entry and proofreading for product descriptions in a large online store (over 3,500 products).
  • Verifying technical data entry for more than 50 independent digital designers.
  • Creating and proofing industry e-zines, payroll reports, blog posts, and promotional material.
  • Debugging code for online shopping cart and blogging software.
  • Creating and proofing printable goods (planners, calendars) for sale.
