Work Experience
CURRENT WORK EXPERIENCE
I'm currently the training director for a court reporting agency in Vancouver. I work remotely to screen and train proofreaders, scopists, and transcriptionists. I also provide mentoring for new court reporters to improve their scoping and proofreading skills and manage the in-house style guide. Prior to agency work, I was a freelance scopist and proofeader, where I gained experience with just about every type of proceeding that a US court reporter could write. I've proofed and/or scoped criminal trials, civil trials, hearings of all type, family court, divorce cases, board meetings, conferences, arbitration, examinations under oath, depositions, etc. I have additional experience with Canadian examinations for discovery, arbitration, chambers hearings, court proceedings and non-court audio. I've worked with daily copy (CaseCAT and PDF) and am comfortable with RealTeam, work units, and file sharing with Dropbox as well as other file sharing methods. I am tech-savvy and can often help reporters learn new little software and workflow tricks such as auto-indexing or EZ Speakers. Because I read steno, I can help you with dictionary entries that come up as I work with your transcripts. As a freelancer, I proofed or scoped over 100,000 transcript pages.
PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE
My prior work experience related to transcript production includes more than five years of administrative support in a variety of office situations including the following:
